The Icelandic horse is known to be smaller than other horses, which is why some like to say it´s a pony rather than a horse. Even though the horse is small it is also strong and special due to it´s two gaits which is additionally to the typical walks. We offer you to experience a tour that combines sightseeing, horseback riding and to live at a horse farm. A tour that is ideal for the whole family!
Day 1: Arrival
Day 2: Morning Pick Up - Hestheimar
Our professional driver guide will pick you up in the morning at your accommodation in Reykjavik. After the pickup you will head to South Iceland, more precisely, to the horse farm Hestheimar. Here we will stay the following 4 nights. When we arrive we will be welcomed with a lovely lunch before we head to the horse stable and get introduction to the Icelandic horse. Inside the riding hall we will have the first hours of practice. After spending the day getting to know the Icelandic Horse we will head to our accommodation before having dinner. After the delicious dinner we can relax in the outdoor hotpot.
Day 3: Hekla Area and Hestheimar
This morning we will take a short sightseeing tour and drive as far as possible towards the volcano Hekla and in the beautiful valley Thjorsárdalur. With our especially equipped vehicle we even try to get to the Viking farm Stöng and the fairytale gorge Gjáin. Here we listen to old sagas which are connected to this area. When we get back to Hestheimar we will have lunch and after that go on a horse riding tour to get really familiar with the Icelandic horse. Same as the night before we will be having dinner at the farm and if you like you can relax in the outdoor hotpot and listen to some old ghost stories and sagas from the surrounding.
Day 4: South Coast and Horse Riding Center
After breakfast we head east to visit the remarkable waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. Here we find as well the old folk museum Skógar. On the way we visit a training centre for Icelandic horses and learn about training of the horses, competitions, breeding and export. In the afternoon or evening you can go on a short optional riding tour.
Day 5: Hestheimar
Day 6: Golden Circle
Day 7: Departure
Shuttle to Keflavik International Airport and individual flight back to the UK (not included, check flight information here).
