Northern Light Self Drive - South Coast Winter Edition

This self drive  trip gives you the opportunity to discover the wonderful saga of Iceland, the Geysers and waterfalls and see the most beautiful surroundings on the south coast in just five days. This is ideal for half-term breaks.  Discover Iceland in winter. 2 nights in a nice countryhotel and a beautiful hotel in the city center of Reykjavik are included.  You decide how to spend your day! Enjoy your evenings, relax in the hotel owned HotPot (Jacuzzy) and try to spot the wonderful northern lights (aurora borealis). 

Itinerary:

DAY 1: ARRIVAL

Flight from selected airport to Keflavik/Iceland and collection of your rental car at the airport. Drive along the coast to a nice countryhotel, where accommodation is reserved for two nights.


DAY 2: THINGVELLIR - GULLFOSS-GEYSIR - SKÁLHOLT

Drive up to Thingvellir, where the world’s oldest parliament was set up in around 930 AD. Thingvellir is on the World Heritage List, first published by UNESCO in 1972. From there you drive to Kerid, which is thought to be around 3,000 years old. Continuing on to Gullfoss and Geysir, you’ll have chance to visit one of the most remarkable tourist attractions in Iceland. On the way back you might want to stop at Skálholt. Skálholt was home to the head of the Icelandic Church from 1056 AD, which was located there for nearly 750 years.


DAY 3: Galcier Myrdalsjökull - Glacier lagoon JÖKULSURÁRLÓN

A long day at the south coast with waterfalls, black beaches and glacier Myrdalsjökull awaits you. You might drive further to Skaftafell National parc and up to Glacier Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe, to explore the beautifull glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon. These unique surroundings have captured the attention of many film-makers. Major parts of both James Bond and Batman movies were shot here.

  • Waterfall Gullfoss - the "golden" waterfall

You might also just want to explore the bird cliffs close to the small town Vik and maybe do a glacier hike on Myrdalsjökull Glacier before heading back to your hotel in Reykjavik.


DAY 4: DRIVE TO REYKJAVÍK via Blue Lagoon

A free day to get to know the capital, with an optional visit to the Blue Lagoon. Overnight stay at a hotel in the citycenter of Reykjavik.


DAY 5: Departure

Drop off the rental car at Keflavik Airport. Check in for your flight back to UK.
