Self-Drive Tour 8 days - self-catering
Explore the ring road, where you can see the main sights of the island in the shortest time. During this self-catering tour you will stay in cottages and summerhouses around the south-west of the country and in Reykjavik in studios/appartments are prebooked for you. Towels and bed linen are included. Distance driven: about 1,500km in total.
DAY 1: ARRIVAL - BLUE LAGOON
Flight from UK to Iceland and collection of the rental car at the airport. Before heading south you can stop at the Blue Lagoon for a relaxing outdoor-bath. First overnight downtown Reykjavik in an appartment.
DAYS 2 TO 4: SOUTHCOAST - GEYSIR - THINGVELLIR NATIONAL PARK
Discover the natural beauty of Iceland, such as the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls on the south coast, as well as the Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfalls. A must is a visit to the National Park Thingvellir which is on the world heritage list of UNESCO.
DAY 5 TO 7: BORGAFJÖRDUR - PENINSULA SNAEFELLSNES - REYKJAVIK
Drive through scenic Hvalfjordur to Borgarfjordur Valley. See fascinating geological features, then continue on the mountain route to the waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafossar and to Deildartunguhver Iceland’s largest hot spring area. Stay on the south shore of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula for 3 nights.
Explore the natural beauty of Snaefellsnes: columnar basalt cliffs at Arnarstapi; beautiful sandy beach and craggy coastline; impressive lava fields and rich bird life, all dominated by the mysterious cone-shaped volcano and glacier which give the peninsula its name. Head back to Reykjavik.
DAY 8: DEPARTURE
The lively capital of Reykjavik offers many attractions, such as shopping and museums. Drive to Keflavik International Airport, return the rental car and fly home. Dates + Prices
