Reykjavík has an astounding variety of restaurants including both native Icelandic cuisine and ethnic styles from around the world. As anyone who has tasted Icelandic cuisine will tell you, the food served in Icelandic homes and restaurants is excellent. Iceland’s two main resources in terms of food are fish and lamb, which are always fresh. Icelandic lambs spend the summer in the wild, feeding on only the most natural herbs and grasses.

In terms of ethnic cuisine, you will have no trouble satisfying a craving for Danish, Italian or French cuisine. For Asian delicacies, there are quite a number of Indian, Thai and Chinese restaurants and it is usually possible to find sushi in one of the many seafood restaurants and speciality restaurants in the city centre. For many travellers the holiday in Iceland is a true gourmet trip!

Please note that in restaurants in Iceland you do not pay for fresh water, unless you order bottled water. Bread is also provided free of charge.
