ITINERARY

REYKJAVÍK – FARM KÁLFHÓLL

Icelandic Horses

Evening pick-up in Reykjavik at the central bus station BSI at 18:00. Our bus will take you to Kalfholl Farm, where the horses and tour guides will be waiting for you. After a delicious dinner, you will have time to get to know the other guests and prepare them for the adventures of the next few days.

KÁLFHÓLL - GLACIAL RIVER THJÓRSÁ - SANDLÆJARMÝRI

Icelandic horses

After an introduction to the Icelandic riding style, we start our ride along the glacial river Thjorsa. This day is ideal for getting to know the Icelandic horse in a relaxed atmosphere. We leave the horses in Sandlaekjarmyri and return to the farm, where the warm jacuzzi offers relaxation before a hearty dinner. (approx. 9 miles)

In the morning, we return to our horses. We ride through the fertile pastureland of the neighbouring community of Hrunamannahreppur. We take spare free-range horses with us so that we can change horses on the way. This enables us to ride at a brisk pace. We cross the famous salmon river Stora-Laxa and have our picnic at Hrunarettir, a sheepfold that is used for the annual sheep drive in autumn. We continue on good bridleways to the gigantic Bruarhloed gorge. Milky green glacier water swirls impressively through bizarre rock formations. From here we continue to Myrkholt farm, where we will spend the next night. (approx. 19 miles)

MYRKHOLT – GULLFOSS – MYRKHOLT

Gullfoss

We follow the river Hvita at toelt along an ever deepening gorge to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, where we will have lunch before riding back to Myrkholt farm, where we will spend the night. (approx. 13 miles)

HAUKADALUR – HAUKADALSHEIÐI – MYRKHOLT

Icelandic Horses

Our ride takes us through the lovely Haukadalur valley, which is covered in birch forest. We cross clear mountain streams and enjoy the rich vegetation of wild flowers that bloom there in midsummer. As we ride up to a highland plateau, the landscape gradually changes to a barren stony desert. The view of the surrounding mountain ranges and glaciers of the interior is breathtaking. We spend the rest of the day at the Geysir geothermal area, where we can admire the countless bubbles of the hot springs in peace and quiet. (approx. 11 miles)

Haukadalur – Haukadalsheiði – Myrkholt

After breakfast we set off in the direction of Reykjavík. Arrival in Reykjavík at around 11.30 am.
