Siglufjördur

Siglufjördur is a beautifull small fishing town in a narrow fjord with the same name on the northern coast of Iceland. The town grew up around the herring industry that was in much bloom in the 1940s and 1950s, but the herring are gone now. The visit of the herring museum is a must!

Deep See Fishing in the Westfjords

This Deep See Fishing camp from Iceland ProFishing is yearly used by 1.000 fishermen from all over the world. Most famous fishing villages are Sudureyri in the fjord Súgandafjörður and Flateyri in the fjord Önundarfjörður. Flateyri has a population of some 237 inhabitants.

Husavik

Husavik Fishingvillage in the north of Iceland has become a centre of whale watching due to whales of different species that frequently enter the bay. The Húsavík Whale Museum is located in the downtown by the harbour

Waterfall Dettifoss

The Dettifoss waterfall is with the greatest volume of any waterfall in Europe, 500 cubic metres of water per second plunges over the edge. Dettifoss is 45 m high and 100m wide. A nice hiking trail, 34km, goes along the canyon from Dettifoss to Asbyrgi

Waterfall Dynjandi

This waterfall is simply enthralling; the Westfjords’ favourite front-page model for decades, and is never short of breathtaking. The biggest and widest part of the waterfall is the one that gets all the attention and the photos, even though there are impressive, albeit smaller, waterfalls further down the river. In fact, one is formed in such a way that the brave can walk behind it, relatively dry.

Lake Myvatn & Natur Bath

Located in the heart of north-east Iceland about 105 kilometres (65 miles) south of the Arctic Circle, Lake Mývatn and its surroundings are one of Europe's greatest natural treasures. A designated nature reserve, Mývatn is an area of fragile beauty where tourist services have been developed in such a way as to cause as little disruption as possible to what is a unique and highly delicate ecosystem.

Latrabjarg Bird Cliff

This westernmost point of Iceland (and Europe if Greenland and the Azores are not counted) is really a line of several cliffs. It is Europe's largest bird cliff, 14km long and up to 440m high. The cliffs are home to millions of birds, including puffins, northern gannets, guillemots and razorbills. It is vital for their survival as it hosts up to 40% of the world population for some species e.g. the Razorbill. 

Egilsstadir - Town in the East

Egilsstadir is a town in east Iceland on the banks of Lagarfljót river. The town is young, even by Icelandic standards where urbanization is a fairly recent trend compared to mainland Europe. It was established in 1947 as an effort by the surrounding rural districts recognising it had become a regional service center. The town, which is named after Egilsstadir farm, is near the bridge over Lagarfljót where all the main roads of the region meet, Route 1 as well as the main routes to the Eastfjords.

Mount Herdubreid

Mt. Herdubreid on the Oskjuleid Route is a 1682m high table mountain. It is the national mountain of Iceland and often called the “Queen of Icelandic mountains”. There is a hiking trail to the top of the mountain, but due to loose rock it´s difficult and steep.

Lake Lögurinn and Waterfall Hengifoss

Lagarfljót (also called Lögurinn) is a lake situated in the east of Iceland near Egilsstaðir. Its surface measures 53 square kilometres (20 sq mi) and it is 25 kilometres (16 mi) long; its greatest width is 2.5 km (1.6 mi) and its greatest depth 112 m (367 ft). The River Lagarfljót flows through this lake.

The biggest forest in Iceland, Hallormsstaðarskógur is to be found near the lake as well as a nice waterfall, Hengifoss. Hengifoss, at 118 m (387 ft), is one of the tallest waterfalls in the country.

Askja Caldera

Askja is a 50 km2 caldera in the Dyngjufjoll mountains. The mountains emerged in eruptions under an Ice Age glacier cap. The caldera contains several volcanoes, including Víti (explosive volcanic crater). Water has accumulated in the crater,  its temperature is variable - it is around 30°C on average. Víti is a popular bathing site

Glacier Snaefellsjökull

Snaefellsjokull (Snaefell Glacier) National Park was established on June 28, 2001.  It is situated on the most western part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula in Iceland. Sometimes it may be seen from the city of Reykjavík over the bay of Faxaflói, at a distance of 120 km. The mountain is one of the most famous sites of Iceland, primarily due to the novel A Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864) by Jules Verne, in which the protagonists find the entrance to a passage leading to the center of the earth on Snæfellsjökull

Sprengisandur Highland Route

Route F26 or Sprengisandsleið is a highland gravel road in Iceland, running through the Sprengisandur area between the glaciers Hofsjökull and Vatnajökull.

With its 200 km, it is the longest of the Icelandic highland roads. Its southern end is at the lake Þórisvatn, to the northeast of the volcano Hekla, and its northern end is the lower part of the valley of the river Skjálfandafljót, to the southwest of lake Mývatn.

Höfn

Höfn i Hornafirdi is an Icelandic fishing town in the south-eastern part of the country. The second largest harbour town in the south-eastern part of Iceland has a population of around 1.640 people.

Glacier Lagoon Jökulsarlon

Jökulsárlón (literally "glacial river lagoon") is a large glacial lagoon in southeast Iceland, on the borders of Vatnajökull National Park. Situated at the head of Breiðamerkurjökull, it evolved into a lagoon after the glacier started receding from the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

Skaftafell National Park

Skaftafell is a preservation area in Öræfi, southeast Iceland. It used to be a manor farm and a national park, but has been a part of Vatnajökull National Park since its establishment in 2008.

Waterfall Skogafoss and Museum Skogar

On the southcoast between glacier Eyjafjallajökull and glacier Myrdalsjökull the museum Skogar and the beautifull waterfall Skogafoss can be visited.

Cap Dyrholaey

The small peninsula, or promontory, Dyrhólaey (120m) is located on the south coast of Iceland, not far from the village Vík.

The view from up there is interesting: To the north is to be seen the big glacier Mýrdalsjökull. To the east, the black lava columns of the Reynisdrangar come out of the sea, and to the west the whole coastline in the direction of Selfoss is visible - depending on weather conditions. In front of the peninsula, there is a gigantic black arch of lava standing in the sea, which gave the peninsula its name (meaning: the hill-island with the door-hole).

In the summertime, many puffins nest on the cliff faces of Dyrhólaey.
