SOUTH COAST

Lake ©Buehler Buechi

Today you will explore the wonders of the South Coast. On the route to Vik, the southernmost town in Iceland make sure you stop at Seljalandsfoss and Skogarfoss. These are two of Iceland's loveliest waterfalls. You can walk to the back of Seljalandsfoss. On the way, you to Vik you will pass Eyjafjallajökull glacier and the area evacuated in the large volcano eruption in 2010. At Vik, you will find Reynisfjara, Reynisdrangar and Dyrholaey. Reynisfjara is a black lava beach that has amazing basalt rock formations. Outside the sea, you can see the basalt-shaped pillars Reynisdrangar. Dyrholaey is a small peninsula at Reynisdrangar. Here you should take pictures of the amazing view. For a longer day-tour and depending on the daylight, you might even drive further to Skaftafell National park and up to Glacier Vatnajökull, the biggest glacier in Europe and explore the beautiful glacier lagoon Jökulsarlon. These unique surroundings have captured the attention of many filmmakers. Major parts of both James Bond and Batman movies were shot here. Return to your accommodation.

THE GOLDEN CIRCLE

Gullfoss in winter ©Buehler Buechi

From the South Shore, you head to the mighty waterfall Gullfoss and the famous Hot Spring area of Geysir, probably the most remarkable tourist attractions in Iceland. You might want to stop at Skálholt. Skálholt was home to the head of the Icelandic Church from 1056 AD, which was located there for nearly 750 years or by the geothermal pool of Secret Lagoon. Make sure you stop at the farm Fridheimar for a nice lunch before you head to Geysir. Drive up to Thingvellir, where the world’s oldest parliament was set up in around 930 AD. Thingvellir is on the World Heritage List, first published by UNESCO in 1972. The park lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the boundary between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. From Þingvellir your journey takes you to the capital Reykjavik where you stay for the next 2 nights

REYKJAVIK

Harpa Concert Hall

A free day to get to know the capital. You might want to take an optional whale watching boat tour from Reykjavik or simply enjoy a stroll and shopping in the City. Visit Harpa concert hall, Hallgrímskirkja church and see panoramic views of the city from the tower.
