The tour continues to the wonders of Geysir Geothermal Area. There are a number of hot springs in the area, one of them is Strokkur that entertains with its up to 25 meters high burst. The journey continues to the mighty Gullfoss waterfall where you will withess the powerful White River roar down the two-tiered cliffs into the rugged canyon.

After these wonderful visits the journey continues towards the South Coast where we overnight. Tonight everyone will be looking out for the Northern Lights.

South East - Glacier lagoon and Ice caving

Joekulsarlon ©Buehler Buechi

In the morning, we head along the South East Coast, towards the fantastic Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Enjoy observing the amazing icebergs of all shapes and sizes, as they glide in a dreamlike procession towards the salty waves of the Atlantic. Many of the icebergs are washed ashore at the Diamond Beach, where they glitter like diamonds on the black sand.

We then head to Skaftafell Nature Reserve for a new adventure with our certified glacier guide, and step into the mesmerizing world of Vatnajokull Glacier.

After taking a beautiful glacier hike, we’ll enter a natural ice cave, the location is chosen based on current condition as the glacier changes. This adventure takes approximately 2 hours. Photographers will get the rare chance to capture mysterious blue light passing through glacial ice.

Ice cave temperatures hover well below freezing, so don’t forget to dress warmly.

Your hotel for the night will be in the Skaftafell area, another great base to test your Northern Lights luck!

South Coast - Reykjavik

Skogafoss

After breakfast, we’ll start our day slowly driving towards Reykjavik, with frequent stops. If the roads are clear, we make a quick detour to Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon before passing through the iconic Eldhraun lava field. Reaching the south coast we stop at the black sandy beach where you will see the famous basalt columns called Reynisdrangar. Gazing up at these dramatic black pillars, you’ll get a good idea of where the legends of Icelandic troll folklore sprang from!

Next we head to Skógafoss, an impressive waterfall that drops 60 m into a tranquil pool below. There are 527 steps leading to the top, yet the steep climb is worth it for the panorama alone. The infamous volcano, Eyjafjallajökull, lurks high above the waterfall, so if visibility is good you’ll get a glimpse of this magnificent mountain glacier. We head for another stunning waterfall, Seljalandsfoss, which is unusual for the fact one can walk behind these graceful falls to enjoy the view from both sides.

We return to Reykjavík between 16:00 and 19:00 o'clock, depending on conditions. The guided tour ends here.
