ARRIVAL IN ICELAND – NORTHERN LIGHTS TOUR

Northern Lights above Akureyri © Rögnvaldur Már Helgason - Visit North Iceland

Upon arrival you will have a shuttle transfer to your accommodation in Akureyri. In the evening you will escape the city and join us just outside Akureyri for a chance to witness the incredible Northern Lights. This winter’s forecasts are very promising, and North Iceland is one of the best places to experience this natural wonder. Each evening, our destination is chosen based on the weather and sky conditions to give you the best possible chance of seeing the lights. Please note that the Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon, and sightings cannot be guaranteed even if the tour operates. If the evening tour goes ahead and the Northern Lights are not seen, we will offer the trip again for free.

IGHLIGHTS OF THE NORTH – EARTH LAGOON MYVATN

Myvatn Nature Baths © Visit North Iceland

We begin by driving along the scenic coast of Eyjafjördur, one of Iceland’s longest fjords. Our first stop is the stunning Godafoss waterfall, known as one of the most spectacular in the country. From there, we continue toward Lake Myvatn, a unique natural area formed by a massive basaltic lava eruption over 2,300 years ago. The surrounding landscape is rich in volcanic features, including dramatic lava pillars and rootless vents. Stop at the pseudocraters of Skutustadagigar before continuing to the striking lava formations of Dimmuborgir, one of the most popular attractions in the Myvatn region. We’ll also visit Grjotagja Rift, a former natural bathing cave with geothermally heated water emerging from a volcanic fissure. The journey continues to two remarkable waterfalls, Selfoss and Dettifoss, the latter being one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe. You’ll then have the chance to unwind and soak in the geothermal waters of the Earth Lagoon Myvatn. After this relaxing experience, we make our way back to Akureyri.

Day at Leisure

Enjoy a relaxing day at leisure in Akureyri, Iceland’s charming northern capital. Start your day with a stroll through the town center, where you’ll find cozy cafés, local boutiques, and art galleries. Visit the iconic Akureyri Church for panoramic views over the town and Eyjafjördur fjord. Take a walk through the beautiful Akureyri Botanical Garden, one of the northernmost in the world, showcasing a surprising variety of Arctic and international plant life. For a deeper dive into local culture, explore the Akureyri Art Museum or the Nonni House, one of the oldest buildings in town. If you're looking to unwind, the Forest Lagoon geothermal spa just outside town is accessible by shuttle or taxi and offers stunning views while you soak. In the evening, enjoy a nice dinner at one of the town’s restaurants.

FOREST LAGOON
