ARRIVAL - Westfjords

Flight from a selected airport to Iceland. Arrival at Keflavík Airport. A member of our team will meet you at Keflavik International Airport. From there, you will travel by bus to your booked camp in the Westfjords. The Fisk Club bus departs from Keflavik Airport on Tuesdays at around 5 p.m., and the journey takes approximately seven hours. Several rental cars are available for shared use at the campsite.

New house type: CAPTAIN'S HOUSE
Our Captain's Houses in Sudureyri, built in 2023, will make your stay in the Westfjords even more comfortable. They feature new furnishings and a larger living room than the sailor's houses, as well as a dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer.

For the next few days, it’s all about fishing as much as you please. In the village, there is a small shop, a swimming pool, a pub/restaurant, and a harbour. The Icelandic summer nights are very short and the daylight stretches long into the night during this time of year, due to the northerly location.

Transfer back to Reykjavik

The territory

Iceland ProTravel picture

Iceland's plentiful fish stocks are mainly due to the unique currents that prevail along the Westfjords. The warm Gulf Stream splits into three sub-currents — the North Atlantic Current, the Norwegian Current and the Irminger Current — at a ridge between Scotland and Iceland on its way from the Mexican coast. The latter transports comparatively warm water to the north-west coast of Iceland. Here, these warm waters meet the ice-cold waters of the East Greenland Current, which absorbs vast quantities of tiny marine food from the Arctic Ocean en route. These conditions are unique. Combined with virtually unpolluted waters and Iceland's sustainable fisheries policy, they lead to the enormous abundance of fish off the northern Westfjords.
