This season offers the best chance to witness the Northern Lights, and your tour includes two dedicated excursions in search of them. ARRIVAL - Reykjavik

Reykjavík in winter

Individual Flybus shuttle transfer from Keflavík Airport to your accommodation in Reykjavík. If time permits, take a stroll through the capital and discover its cosy cafés and cultural landmarks at your own pace. Accommodation in Reykjavik.

Volcano Crater - Fjords - Mountains

At 9:00 a.m. meet your tour guide at the hotel and begin your journey westward through the charming town of Borgarnes. Take a leisurely hike up the Grabrok volcano crater, surrounded by a greenish lava field. Continue north to step back in time at Glaumbaer, a beautifully preserved turf house farm and folk museum. Travel through dramatic fjords and over scenic mountain passes, taking in Iceland’s rugged beauty before arriving in Akureyri, the lively capital of North Iceland. Spend the night here and soak up the town’s cosy atmosphere, exploring its streets, cafés, and local charms at your leisure. Accommodation in Akureyri.

In the morning, explore the charm of Akureyri, often called the capital of North Iceland, and take in sweeping views over the Eyjafjordur fjord. For those interested, optional whale-watching tours are available at 9:00 a.m. (April - October). In the afternoon, visit Godafoss, the magnificent “waterfall of the gods,” and continue to the geological wonders of Lake Myvatn. Admire the dramatic lava formations at Kalfastrond, the pseudo-craters at Skutustadir, and the tephra cone Hverfjall. End the day with a soothing soak in the geothermal Myvatn Nature Baths, overlooking the stunning surroundings. As night falls, embark on a quest to witness the Northern Lights, visiting prime locations for the best chance to see the aurora borealis dance across the sky. Enjoy the serene winter landscape while waiting for this unforgettable natural spectacle. Accommodation in Myvatn area.

Lava Labyrinth - Hot Spings - Travel East

In the morning, wander through Dimmuborgir, the “dark castles,” a labyrinth of lava formations steeped in local legends of trolls. In the afternoon, visit the geothermal area of Namaskard, where bubbling mud pools and steaming solfataras showcase Iceland’s raw volcanic power. Continue your journey through the remote highlands, a stark, lunar-like landscape, as you make your way toward East Iceland. Accommodation in Egilsstadir area.

East Fjords - Glacier Lagoon - Diamond Beach

Spend the day taking in the dramatic fjords and charming fishing villages hidden at the ends of winding coastal roads in the East Fjords. Along the way, visit a captivating stone and mineral collection. In the afternoon, be awed by Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier, which shapes the striking landscape of Southeast Iceland. Conclude the day at Jokulsarlon glacial lagoon, where icebergs drift across the serene waters and seals can sometimes be spotted swimming nearby. From May through October, a boat tour between floating icebergs is included in the programme. Then walk along Diamond Beach, where icebergs lie stranded like jewels on the black sand. Vatnajokull national Park - South Coast

Journey along the southern edge of the Vatnajokull glacier, catching views of Europe’s second-largest national park, home to Iceland’s tallest peaks and expansive alpine landscapes. In the afternoon, enjoy a scenic drive across the Eldhraun lava field and the south coast’s sandy deserts, framed by glaciers, cliffs, and waterfalls. Experience the Icelandic Lava Show, where you get to witness and feel the heat from molten lava, before walking along the striking black-sand beach of Reynisfjara near Vik. Visit the impressive 60-meter Skogafoss waterfall in Skogar and continue to Seljalandsfoss, where a trail leads behind the cascading water for a unique perspective. There is a possibility of seeing the Northern Lights during the evening from September to mid-April. Accommodation in Hella area.

Icelandic Horses - Golden Circle

Gullfoss in Winter

Today, journey through the legendary Golden Circle and experience some of Iceland’s most iconic sights. Begin at Fridheimar farm, where you’ll meet the famous Icelandic horses and explore a warm, thriving geothermal greenhouse. Continue to the Geysir geothermal area, where the earth hisses and bubbles, and watch Strokkur, “the Churn,” erupt every few minutes in a dramatic display of nature’s power. Next, be awed by Gullfoss, the “golden falls,” as water plunges 32 meters into the Hvita river below. Venture inland to Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where history and geology converge, marking the site of Iceland’s first parliament. Return to Reykjavik for a brief city tour, taking in the highlights of the vibrant northernmost capital in the world. Accommodation in Reykjavik.

Optional Northern Lights evening tours can be booked at the lobby of your hotel, should weather conditions be favourable.
