On this fascinating guided tour you will explore the fascinating Ice Caves of Iceland which form naturally in Europe’s biggest glacier, Vatnajokull. This tour also includes the famous highlights of Iceland South coast and the Golden Circle. It is the season for Northern Lights and you will be in an ideal location to spot them in the evening, prepare for an adventure of a lifetime!
After having breakfast, meet your guide and and start your journey to the South of Iceland. We explore the area around Eyjafjallajokull volcano that erupted in 2010. You get to see two of Iceland's best known waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss which you can walk behind, and the majestic Skogafoss. We continue to Reynisfjara, the black sandy beaches, where you can see the Reynisdrangar cliffs. Overnight in the Vik area.
We start the day by visiting the area of Vatnajökull national park, the impressive Vatnajökull is Europe’s largest glacier. Skaftafell is a stunning area of volcanic landscape, beautiful waterfalls and rich flora. You get to explore an ice cave. They are in different locations on the south side of the glacier. A qualified specialist guide will assess the conditions and decide what cave to visit. Remember your camera, capturing the light passing through the ice is quite a sight. After an exciting day we head to our hotel for the evening.
After breakfast we explore some of Iceland’s most famous attractions. We will head back along the south shore until we reach the geothermal are of Geysir. In this area there are hot springs, bubbling mud pots and Strokkur "the churn". One of the most active geysers in the world . Next we see the majestic “Gold Waterfall” Gullfoss and continue to Thingvellir national park. The park is a UNSESCO world heritage site. The area has historical and geological importance. It is the oldest existing parliament in the world first assembled there in 930 AD. This is also where the North American and European tectonic plates meet, the rift is visible in the landscape. The day ends in Reykjavik and you have the evening at your own leisure. Overnight in Reykjavik.
We enjoy breakfast at the hotel and then do a bit of exploring Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. In the afternoon we travel to the Reykjanes peninsula. Reykjanes is home to rugged lava landscape, smoking geothermal fields and the famous Blue lagoon. The Blue Lagoons milky blue water and the black volcanic rocks that surround it, is a striking sight. Enjoy a relaxing bath in the lagoon with its mineral rich geothermal waters. Return to Reykjavik and enjoy the evening at your own leisure. Please liaise with the hotel reception to confirm your pick time for the Flybus transfer pick up tomorrow.
Depart by Shuttle transfer to Keflavik airport. Flights back to your final destination.
