Golden Circle: Thingvellir - Geysir - Gullfoss

Gullfoss in winter

After breakfast at the hotel, our guide will pick us up from the next bus stop and we will make our way to the first highlight of the tour: the sights of the Golden Circle.

Our first stop is Thingvellir National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to the world's oldest parliament, the Althingi. This geologically fascinating place is where the Eurasian and North American continental plates can be seen drifting apart, and visitors can even walk between them. Next, we visit the geyser area, where the spectacular Geysir Strokkur erupts every few minutes. Finally, we drive to the impressive Gullfoss waterfall, one of the most popular tourist attractions in Iceland.

After completing the Golden Circle route, we drive along the south coast to Seljalandsfoss, before continuing on to our hotel. If the weather is good, we will have the chance to see the mesmerising northern lights.

Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon and Ice caving

Jokulsarlon © Jacqueline Bühler-Büchi

We start the day with a visit to the famous Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon and the neighbouring Diamond Beach. The lagoon is filled with floating icebergs of all shapes and sizes. With a bit of luck, we will see some seals swimming in the lagoon or sunbathing on the ice floes. Breidamerkursandur, better known to many visitors as Diamond Beach, gets its name from the many chunks of ice that wash up on the black beach and look like diamonds in the sun.

We then make our way to Skaftafell Nature Reserve for a glacier hike. From October to April, we join our certified glacier guide and experience the breathtaking beauty of the Vatnajokull Glacier up close. The destination of our hike is one of the many natural ice caves that form in the glaciers of Iceland in winter. Our guide will tell us about the formation of these unique caves while we marvel at the light mysteriously filtering through the blue layers of ice. After the tour, we will make our way back to the hotel.

South Coast - Reykjavik

Skogafoss in Winter

After strengthening ourselves with a hearty breakfast, we make our way back to Reykjavik, stopping at many points along the way, such as the Fjadrargljufur Canyon and the Eldhraun Lava Field. We also visit the black beach of Reynisfjara, where the mighty waves of the Atlantic crash against the coast, and the basalt columns on the cliffs give this place a mystical air.

We then drive to the impressive Skogafoss waterfall, which cascades nearly 200 feet down a rock face. If the weather is good, we can even see the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in the background. This is our last stop and we drive back to Reykjavik, where we would arrive between 4 pm and 7 pm.
