8 day Winter Adventure, small group tourBooking request
Iceland's nature shows its adventurous side in winter. The way to make the most of this is to explore Iceland with a local experienced tour guide, who knows the country and the circumstances like the back of his hand. Travelling in a modified 4WD off-road vehicle, you will discover the best of Iceland, including hot springs, waterfalls, national parks, beaches, and extraordinary glaciers experiences. The main highlights during this special tour are: hunting for dancing Northern Lights, the Glacier Lagoon at Vatnajökull National Park, and extraordinary tour into deep blue ice caves, where bizarre natural sculptures are constantly changing their appearance. You will be captivated by fire and ice on this exclusive adventure tour. Small group tour with a minimum of 6, maximum of 12 people.
Morning departure from Reykjavik. You are heading along the South Shore, where plenty of exciting activities await you. You are going to visit a number of fascinating waterfalls, amongst the impressive Urriðafoss. The next highlight is the Black Sand Beach with its powerful waves and impressive basalt rock columns. Underneath the Mýrdalsjökull glacier is Volcano Katla, here you are about to visit the first ice cave on this tour. The black-blue ice cave is ever-changing as nature is in charge. Overnight in the area. In the evening you have to lookout for the Northern Lights!
The day begins by passing over the impressive Eldhraun Lava Field onward to Vatnajökull National Park where we enjoy an easy hike. The adventure continues with visiting another ice cave. The stunning blue ice cave in Breiðamerkurjökull glacier is simply breathtaking. Every year nature forms a new shape, the clarity of this cave is incredible. There are more fascinating natural ice sculptures awaiting you, when visiting the Glacier Lagoon. The massive icebergs floating in the lagoon are always wonderful to watch. The Black Sand Beach near the lagoon is often called the “Diamond Beach,” due to the look of the icebergs that lie upon the beach. Overnight stay for the next 2 nights in the region. The presentation on the Northern Lights will be one of the evenings, but surely every night you will be looking out for them.
Today the whole day is dedicated to Europe’s largest glacier and its region. The day will be planned according to weather and ice conditions. In the evening, it’s time again to lookout for the Northern Lights.
On the way back south, your guide continues showing you fascinating work of nature created by Icelandic glaciers, when taking you on a walk by fascinating glacier moraine. At the charming Skógar, we enjoy the impressive Skógafoss waterfall and visit the Skógar museum, an incredible interesting cultural heritage with one of the nation’s greatest collection of artifacts and a few historical buildings. Overnight stay and hunting for the Northern Lights from the hotel on the South Coast.
Iceland has a lot of waterfalls, but they are all very different from one another, today you enjoy a few more. You will also enjoy and relax in one of Iceland’s geothermal baths. You visit the incredible Lava Center. This fantastic exhibit gives you a great understanding of Iceland’s inner forces. The journey continues to the mighty Gullfoss waterfall, the impressive Geysir hot spring area, with its many bubbling hot springs and the famous spouting Strokkur. The final wonder of the day is the UNESCO World Heritage site, Þingvellir National Park, where the Eurasian- and North American tectonic plates meet. Thingvellir is also where Iceland’s parliament was formed in 930. Overnight stay for the next 2 nights in Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world.
Enjoy and explore Reykjavik at your own leisure. You can take optional tours, for example, you can visit the Blue Lagoon, go on a whale watching tour, a horseback riding tour, visit museums and much more.
