Exciting news from Iceland: There has been increased earthquake activity on the Reykjanes Peninsula with an expected volcanic eruption in the next few days. The activity is centred in the same area as previous eruptions in 2022 and 2021. Since July 4, there have been repeated reports of seismic activity in the region.
The region around Fagradalsfjall is a popular destination. We highly recommend you to stay away from the area as it is impossible to precisely estimate where the eruption will take place and things can escalade extremely fast. If you are on site, please keep your distance from slopes and mountains, as there is a risk of falling rocks and landslides. Travel to Iceland, as well as air and travel, is currently unaffected.
